Cardiac Vibration Signals: New Tricks for Old Devices
Dr Kouhyar Tavakolian gave a talk at Qualcomm on Oct 19th titled:
Title: Cardiac Vibration Signals: New Tricks for Old Devices
Abstract: With every heartbeat the body is set to a series of vibrations that can be recorded unobtrusively, using different sensing technologies and from different sites on the body. The techniques for recording these signals are not new, for the most part, and have been around for more than a century (e.g. Seismocardiography and Ballistrocardiography). However, new sensor and signal processing developments have provided us with a unique opportunity to use these techniques in monitoring cardiovascular dynamics. The applications range from monitoring patients during sleep, through sensors embedded in their beds or cloths, to adaptive adjustment of cardiac pacemakers. In this talk an overview of these technologies and their novel applications will be presented.
